Exuberant Lady of Level 300 Class of Social Studies, Miss Esther Mensah, has been elected President in an election held on Thursday, 26th April, 2019, by the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) of the Kumasi Campus of the Valley View University (VVU).
Her election comes as record breaking as no female student has ever risen to occupy this top position since the Ashanti Regional Campus of the Nation’s Premier Private University was established. Assisted by Mr. Frank Adu Sarkodie as her vice, Miss Mensah polled 275 of the total valid votes cast as against her only contender, Mr. Addo Enock, popularly known as Onipaba.
Other successful candidates included Messrs Amankwah Stephen (General Secretary), Boateng Bediako Asare (Public Relations Officer) and Alex Kofi Opiord (Financial Officer). Others were Mr. Ohene Duah Clement (Men’s Organizer), Miss Wereko Gifty (Women’s organizer), Mr. Asamoah Peter (Welfare Officer) and Mr. Peprah Evans (Editor).
The SRC has often been blamed by the student body of the above – named school of non-performance. Of course, when students have the same problems repeating themselves over the years, what other conclusion would they be expected to arrive at? Definitely, their conclusion would not differ from the above. Students have, however, been assured that all their worries would come to an end when the university moves to occupy its own campus at Oduom in the Ashanti Region. Let us hope this is true, but if not, then the Esther Mensah administration would have a daunting task to deal with. Whatever the situation may be, what students look up to, is what the Mensah – Sarkodie team would bring on board and the difference it would make from the administrations of the previous leaders.
Well, let us hope that this team would take the Seventh-Day Adventist owned and managed University to the promise land, at least, within the next academic year.
